Canton, Georgia is experiencing a plumbing boom as more families move to Cherokee County. I feel both fortunate and blessed to live here, and serve my neighbors with Champion Plumbing. There are so many plumbers to choose from in Canton that I began to realize how difficult it is for my neighbors to find an honest and trustworthy plumber that stands behind their work.
This post isn’t just about plumbers and the plumbing business in the area, it’s about the history of this place and those who made it one of the greatest places to live in Georgia.
History of Canton, Georgia
At one time the land on which the City of Canton is built belonged to the Cherokee Nation, but the Georgia Gold Rush of 1829 brought many Europeans to the area. The end result was what is today known as The Trail of Tears. During the Civil War the town was burned by General Sherman of the Union Army. After the war it became world famous for its mill and Canton Denim. Blues jeans with the mill label are to this day coveted in Japan, and can fetch hundreds of dollars. The main industry today is Pilgrims Pride poultry.
When visiting the town the remains of the once famous mill are everywhere to be found. The people who worked there are the one’s who placed their special mark on the city. It was built with their industry and dollars.
