More
than just a drop in the bucket

Did you know that a small leak in your toilet
flapper or a drip in your sink could lead to 2,000
gallons of wasted water per year,? Even more if
you have a large family with several bathrooms.
How often do you have the opportunity to save money
and help the environment? Well, here is a big one.
Make sure the flapper and seat inside your toilet's
tank is in good condition, your fill tube, ball
cock, and fill valve, are working properly. Stop
the drain on your dollars and let Champion plumbing
inspect your home's plumbing of money and water
wasting problems.

Don't
Let Yourself Get Hosed!

One of the
biggest plumbing threats to your family's
home is the connections to your washing machine.
These two seemingly harmless hoses are responsible
for over $100 million of damage annually to
people's homes. For a relatively small fee
you can replace your old worn-out rubber hoses
with new braided hoses that will protect your
home and possessions. This is one of the best
insurance policies you can buy for your home
and is part of the champion plumbing 12 point
custom home plumbing inspection. Please call
us or your free inspection or our recommendation
of hoses. Tip: turn off the supply valves
to your washing machine before you leave town
or go on vacation, as this is when you're
most likely to get hosed! |
The
lazy Flush:

A very common complaint is that a customer's
toilet does not flush great. It swirls and eventually
flushes but leaves some toilet paper or unmentionables
behind, resulting in a second flush. This is even
more common in older toilets. This is known as the
"lazy flush syndrome". One of the most
important components of your toilet, are the port
holes underneath the rim of your bowl. This is how
the water from your tank is induced into your bowl,
resulting in a perfect flush. Over time, these holes
become filled with mold that slows down the flush
and leads to a slower revolution in your bowl that
will not create the "surge" needed to
get all of the waste down in a single flush. Try
cleaning the underside of your bowl's rim aggressively
with your toilet brush and see if you notice black
specks of mold. To take it a step further you can
use a toothpick to clean out each hole individually.

The
Not So Perfect Storm:

Recently, we
received a call from a homeowner who woke
up to a flooded basement. What makes this
even worse is the fact that they had just
remodeled it and put new hardwood floors down.
As we pulled into the driveway we noticed
the restoration trucks in the driveway, not
a good sign. Apparently, their ejection pump
that served the basement bathroom failed at
the same time the flapper in the basement
bathroom's toilet stuck in the open position.
These two problems are relatively common,
but to happen at the same time is disastrous!
Never under estimate the value of having your
home's plumbing inspected by a professional
annually. Washing machine hoses, rusty water
heaters, leaking flappers, and worn out shut
off valves lead to over $200 million annually
in damages to people's homes. On a side note
the homeowner mentioned above corrected all
their problems and got their new basement
back in order. That is, until the flood of
2009 this past September reared its ugly head...
